A national member federation is a national governing body for athletics (track & field) affiliated to World Athletics.
Only one member from each country or territory may be affiliated to World Athletics and must abide by the rules and regulations of World Athletics.
The number of affiliated federations has grown dramatically from the 17 founding members in 1912.
The total number of countries and territories currently affiliated to World Athletics stands at 214, which places World Athletics among the world’s largest sporting organisations, and with more members than the United Nations.
