About the WRE Bahamas 24 Logo

The host nation, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, inspires the narrative behind the design of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 logo.

The blue background is indicative of our lush clear Bahamian waters.

The festive, colourful portion reminds us of our vibrant culture and national festival, Junkanoo (a Bahamian cultural celebration inclusive of dance and music, a true celebration of freedom. Junkanoo was how enslaved people expressed themselves during the Christmas holiday season. The tradition continued after emancipation from slavery, and today is a formal and organized parade with intricate costumes, music, and prizes that attract Bahamians and tourists alike).

The bold, gold border represents our nation’s athletic success and The Bahamas’ 50th Golden Jubilee of Independence.

Embedded in the centre of the design is the sun, representing the warmth of Bahamian people and our beautiful climate.

The shape of the design is a "W" representing the World, with an arch connecting both points at the top, symbolizing how sports unite us globally.

Using the baton in the relay symbolizes succession and progress, with the race moving forward.
